When trying to install a new OS on a computer with a Supermicro MBD-X10SLA-F-O motherboard I ran into a problem that I’d seen before but previously had mysteriously gone away. The boot would hang with the code in the lower right corner stuck on either b4 or 32. It turns out that the problem was that the USB cable I was using for my CD-ROM drive was the problem. It’s possible the cable was too long, but whatever the problem with it was after I swapped it out everything booted fine.
